Financial Youth Summit
Sacramento, CA – Sacramento Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. is proud to be promoting its fifth Financial Youth Summit. We are asking the community to come together to close the economic wealth gap in the Black Community by registering a teen to attend.
Sponsored by the Sacramento Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority and Los Rios Community Colleges – American River College, the Financial Youth Summit is a one-day conference geared to teach students from socio-economically disadvantaged communities basic financial literacy concepts and tools. Teens can change the game around economic development in the Black community and close the wealth gap with financial literacy.
The Financial Youth Summit is a way to address the lack of financial education in California’s public schools. Only 23 states require students to take a financial literacy course to graduate, which ultimately increases the wealth gap and is wider for communities of color. On the Personal Finance Index (P-Fin Index), developed by the TIAA Institute and Global Financial Literacy Excellence Center (GFLEC), only 38% of Black adults in comparison to 55% of white adults answered correctly around personal finance knowledge.
